The Back Car Seat Protector was the Best Baby Shower Gift I Ever Received
Getting ready to have a baby is no joke. I had absolutely no clue all the things I would need to have on hand to welcome this kid into the world. NO CLUE! My best friend helped me create my registry and I picked out the usual things – cute baby clothes and shoes, bottle warmers, strollers, baby food makers.
I truly felt overwhelmed by everything, especially as it got closer to my due date. At my baby shower, I unwrapped each gift. Some of them I was expecting to receive. But there was one baby gift that I received that I never expected. Largely because I didn’t know such a thing existed, or that I would even need one
It was a back child car seat protector. My husband’s secretary was the giver of this gift. I smiled politely and thanked her, but I think she could tell from the look in my eyes that I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do with it. At the end of my shower, she approached me and I thanked her gift again and for coming.
She said she had wanted to get me something that no one else would ever think of that would be a lifesaver. Rita, my husband Nick’s secretary, is a little bit older than us. Her kids are in high school and college now. She explained that when her boys were younger, she used a back car seat protector to keep the car seats from marring her nice leather seats.
Installing the car seat was difficult, but prior to that, adding in the back car seat protector she got me was the easiest thing ever. I soon saw what Rita had meant when I fastened the car seat on top of the Smiinky Car Seat Protector. My husband and I tugged at the seat the make sure it didn’t budge and be sure we set it up correctly. The back seat car protector helped keep the car seat from slipping. It stayed firmly in place.
I noticed it also had some pockets in it. Just before I had the baby, I added a packet of baby wipes to one pocket and a couple extra diapers to the other one. I didn’t think about those things again until three weeks after my son Dylan was born. I’d forgotten to take along more wipes and diapers in the diaper bag and discovered he’d made a horrible, messy diaper. That was so handy to have there, just when I needed it most.
We had to move the car seat to my mom’s car one day and as I took off the back car seat protector, I saw that the leather underneath it was unmarked and looked as new as ever. The back car seat protector kept it from damage. Now this is the gift I give when I’m invited to baby showers. It’s a godsend!
